Tips for using the REIN.org web site.
Find a project by map
Selecting “center”, “zoom” or “get project” changes the function of a mouse click. It can re-center the map, zoom in toward a click, or open the project represented by a dot.
Zoom bubbles: click on a bubble, on the left between “regional” and “local” to zoom toward the center of the map. The five levels closest to “local” will display an aerial photo.
Pan arrows: click on the grey triangles around the edge of the map to see more of the map in that direction.
Find a project by keywords
Enter a keyword or phrase and click find search for an exact match. This search is most successful when a unique term is entered. The search looks at titles and descriptions of projects. Check your spelling – an exact match is required, but it is not case sensitive.
Use filters to focus your search on specific areas, organizations, actions property and dates.
To see every project in the database, do not enter or select anything, just click “find.”
If only one project matches the search criteria, that project will be displayed. If more than one project matches, a list will be displayed. The project titles are links to further information.
Find and edit your projects
You can open and edit your previously entered projects.
Use “find a project by map” and click on the dot that is your project. The summary will open and (if you are logged in) links to all the project information pages will appear in the left navigation.
Use “find a project by keywords” to search for a project by title or use the filter “sponsoring organization” combined with other filters to narrow your search. Click on a title in the results list. If you are the original owner of that project and have logged in, you will be able to edit content using links in the left navigation.
Accounts
Create an account and/or log in to add projects to the REIN.org web site.
To create an account, click “Join REIN” and fill out the form. If a coworker will need to access your projects, be sure to use an e-mail address and password that you can share.
What do I do if I forget my password? Click on “forgot your password?” to find your password hint and have your password e-mailed to you.
Adding a new project
After you have joined or logged in, click on the “add new project” link that appears in the left navigation.
Enter a title, description, type of action(s), start date and web permission and click “Add project” to save a project in REIN.org.
After a project has been established, you have the option of adding a lot more information. The title of your project will appear in the left navigation, followed by links to additional forms and a “summary” link that shows you how other visitors will see the project. You can add as much information as you’d like, but this is not required.
Placing sites on the map
Click on “sites.” You can enter text for a site’s name and narrative description, a location and other details for one or many sites.
Click “place on map” to see a pan/zoom map of the region (same functions as find by map). Zoom in and click to indicate the site of your project. REIN.org will place a red dot at those coordinates and will automatically identify in which council district, county and watersheds the project is located.
Actions, activities and metrics
On the pages for conservation, education, monitoring and restoration, you can provide more details about your project. Click on a green arrow or blue heading and check the boxes next to activity descriptions that describe your project. Enter numbers of acres, stream length and other metrics.
Images, documents and related internet links
You can add pictures, such as before/after, plans, reports and links to further information about your project.
